A virtually opaque & inky “tooth-stainer”, it’s color does NOT belie the full-bodied & chewy aspect of this classic wine. A virtual perfume of black cherries, currants & ripe elderberries transfers over to the palate while adding subtle layers of blueberries, black plum, black pepper & a touch of cola. Though somewhat pronounced, the tannins are smooth, rounded & sweet resulting in an impressive, if not overly long finish.
SUGGESTED FOOD PAIRINGS
Dry/strong cheeses, herbed/grilled pork tenderloin, most grilled red meats with or without BBQ sauce (especially ribs), most favorable w/lamb dishes or other game. Think a Greek-style marinated & butterflied boneless leg of lamb, with rosemary, oregano, lemon & garlic accents & a wild mushroom risotto.
